Paul Kooner-Evans
Head of Business School Programmes

About
Graduating from Portsmouth University with a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computing, Paul Kooner-Evans has built successful careers across various industries, including the creative sector, retail travel, pharmaceuticals, and catering. In each field, Paul has gained extensive knowledge and experience, fostering an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrating strong leadership and responsibility.
In 1993, Paul founded a retail travel agency, driven by a keen interest in understanding customer activity, financial information, and supplier details. He initially created a simple database to manage customer profiles but soon recognised the need for greater system integration. By collaborating with software development partners, he developed a comprehensive customer and supplier management system, which was later licensed to other independent travel agencies. The business then operating over three different sites was eventually sold as a going concern.
His experience in the pharmaceutical industry underscored the importance of well-planned change management programmes, including effective communication and training for all stakeholders, many of whom were field-based.
In 2008, after selling a catering business he started in 2005, Paul returned to education and completed an MSc in Information Systems. Recognising the potential of the then-emerging concept of cloud-based computing, his research focused on developing a resource management tool within a cloud-based environment.
At the University of Chichester, Paul has held several teaching posts, primarily in computing and business management. He also played a key role in developing the university’s first degree apprenticeship programme.
Paul remains fascinated by the rapid innovations in IT and the application of technology in the business environment.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar (albeit not very well), and being actively involved in his local cricket club.
