My So-Called Haunting

Students on our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Performance degree programme have the opportunity to workshop and be a part of the development process for new musicals, working directly with the writers and creating original roles.
The initiative is led by Course Leader Andrew Wright, working with the support of partner companies Mercury Musical Development and Musical Theatre Network. The rehearsal process takes place on Bishop Otter Campus with the culmination of the week being a live performance of the workshopped material on Saturday 2nd November at 7:30pm in The Showroom, BOC.
A teenage psychic falling for a ghost-hunter – that’s not going to end well! Maybe not, but it makes for a gripping story told with warmth, exhilarating songs and some scary surprises along the way. At the heart of the musical is psychic Skye, who shares a house with her psychic aunt Celestine and a crabby sixteenth-century ghost.
Skye befriends Dontay, a moody teen ghost who was the victim of a drive-by shooting and helps stop his brother from getting dragged into gang culture. And if that wasn’t enough to deal with, Skye’s a new girl at school where she infuriates entitled diva Emily by attracting the attention of cool, mysterious Nico who turns out to be a ghost hunter with evil intent.
Created by multi award-winning writers Elly Brewer (book) and Alexander S. Bermange (music and lyrics) and based on the novel My So-Called Haunting by Tamsyn Murray.
We are delighted to be enabling the research and development of this new British musical.
