D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration

A commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings will take place at the University of Chichester.
It will begin with an Act of Remembrance by Revd Dr Alison Green, followed by a public lecture from Professor Hugo Frey;
“D-Day on Film: Imagining the Battle for Normandy in Pictures and Memories”
Hugo Frey is Professor of Cultural and Visual History at the University of Chichester and in this public lecture he will explore the story of how D-Day has been repeatedly portrayed in the cinema. The lecture will explore work such as The Longest Day, The Big Red One, and Saving Private Ryan. It will explore how each generation has re-created their own stories and pictures about the D-Day landings.
The lecture will be held in room E124 which was the operations room for the RAF operating out of Tangmere.
During the D-Day operations, RAF Tangmere played a key role, as it became the base for several squadrons for offensive actions. Throughout the war, RAF Tangmere was the control centre for both offensive and defensive squadrons.
Please note that car parking on campus is subject to availability and is pay by phone Monday – Friday 8am-6pm £1.90 per hour. All other times £1.35 set fee.
Tickets are free and all are welcome.
